iPhone Found to Be Most Social Device, Leads Web Content Sharing

In a recent study by ShareThis, the iPhone was found to be the most social device with users three times more likely to share content through their iPhone compared to their desktop. iPhone users are also 1.5x more likely to share content on their iPhone compared to all other mobile devices.

ShareThis conducted a 30 day study by monitoring nearly 5 billion 'social signals' across the desktop web and 1.2 billion signals across the mobile web throughout 2.4 million sites.

Facebook accounts for 60% of sharing on mobile while Pinterest and Twitter are next in line. Interestingly enough this trend is present in iPhones as well, with 66% of shares being represented from Facebook, but on the iPad, Pinterest takes up nearly 50% of the shares alone. ShareThis claims this is because of the iPad's screen size which encourage users to share a lot of recipes, fashion, and any other subject that involves a lot of graphics.


What is interesting from the comparison is that the screen size of the device suggests a material impact on the types of content people are likely to consume and share. In the case of iPads, people browse and share a lot of recipes, fashion, and home and garden subject matter, content that includes more graphics, and they use the highly visual Pinterest more! On iPhones, people socialize with their friends, listen to music, and read news updates; there they rely on Facebook more.
