Apple has released a public beta of OS X 10.10 Yosemite, the company's upcoming operating system set for release this fall.
The public beta is available to the first million users who sign up here.
OS X Yosemite has been redesigned and refined with a new look, new apps and new continuity features that make working across your Mac and iOS devices easier.
Installation of the public beta is done through the Mac App Store using a special redemption code. Apple is rumored to be releasing the gold master of Yosemite on October 10th.
Damn!!! Nice work by Apple. I so do like all new icons and the colors in the UI. Text is way sharper then it was. Just love it. Installing took a while to commence. It stuck on 22 minutes remaining for like 15 minutes but then it went fine. No problems so far. AirDrop with iOS probably will work from iOS8 but haven't read into that well enough. That's one of the functions I am waiting for.
I will have to wait until Sunday to install it since I need to use the Windows VM for some work. Can anyone who has upgraded confirm if Parallels 9 works after upgrading?
Updated to Yosemite and even my old version of Parallels 9 still works nicely. No update needed. Even PlayOnMac and Wine and Crossover still works... for now, hope it will stay this way.
Just updated to Apple OS X Yosemite Public Beta. No problems, works great with my apps - and looks great in dark mode (Mac Book Pro, late 2010). GO FOR IT...
You must have forgot to uncheck the boxes when it asked whether you wanted to use the new icloud drive. When installing it asked if you wanted to encrypt your drice and then asked about icloud. I made sure not to leave any of those boxes checked since I didn't want to mess with that stuff, expecially not knowing what it might do.
Just finished installing Yosemite beta on my 2011 Macbook Air. So far so good. A lot of stuff definitely looks different from the way it did in Mavericks, so there's no doubt that I'm using a new OS now. Am I the first one in her to get it installed?
So has anyone actually got it running yet?? Hope it doesn't cause too many problems, though if it's like the Mavericks beta it'll probably be just fine.
It runs just fine. I'm running it as my only OS on my MBA 13" 2013, and only one glitch so far;
when running Safari and Feedback Assistant and a Finder window simultaneously, right clicking the Feedback Assistant, and then left clicking SHOW ALL WINDOWS makes the OS Crash, so you can tab between nothing shown, and the Safari window, but you can't surf the internet. only one solution: Hard turn-Off MBA and start again.
Other than that; smooth sailing for my part :-)

Well, after a LOT of reloads of the page, I finally managed to log-in... and start downloading, by clicking a redeem code :-)
So, guess I am within the 1st mill. :-D
Are you running it as main OS, or on a separate disk?
I plan to run it from a 2Tb WD USB 3.0 external HDD, and if I like it, after testing, well enough to get rid of Mavericks, I'm installing it as my main OS.
Ok, calm down. First, do not leave the Beta Program and reattempt to sign up. They are in the process of reissuing the beta codes for those who signed up. There will be no emails (for now). Once the site is up, log out, and try logging back in, it should then give you a new code which when you click on the actual code it will take you to the Mac App Store and display it, click redeem and it should go through. Look on the purchases tab and you should see the Beta downloading. If for any reason it is still giving you the old code, be patient it should renew soon. If you leave and they have already finished reissuing you might get left out...
I was wondering what happened when I clicked on download. Your tip about looking at purchases was a lifesaver. I had no idea it was already downloading.

Look at Purchases in the app store. You're probably already downloading without even realizing it. That's what happened to me. Once I knew to look there I saw that it had started downloading right off the bat.
