Images of the Chinese iPhone have been posted online by Sina.com.cn, according to a MacWorld report.

The images show an iPhone with simplified Chinese characters on the screen and inscribed into the back of the handset.

Early pictures showed China's "Environmental Protection Use Period" mark. This mark indicates how many years the product is safe from health issues such as hazardous leaks etc. The iPhone pictured was marked as safe for 10 years. These markings have since been blurred out by Sina.

The iPhone in the Sina pictures had “China Unicom 3G” displayed beside the signal strength meter on its screen. The back of the handset was inscribed with the letters WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access), the 3G standard being promoted by China Unicom.

The model number of the iPhone is A1324.

True hoax.. another ChiPhone
True hoax.. another ChiPhone - August 3, 2009 at 10:42am
It's a hoax or some Chinese Manufacturer made the copycat of yet another iPhone wannabe. This one really looks like the real thing. Except, 1. It lacks true Apple design when inscribing the text behind the body. 2. It said WCDMA, while the screen shows a 3G icon. WTF?! enuff said

If I'm not mistaken, the Chinese version of an iPhone won't have wireless facilities. If that's the case, it's a real shame to have an iPhone and no wireless! Thank God, I don't live there!

Maybe no wifi 802.11x but it's definitely going have wireless facilities of at least the WCDMA sort. What I'm wondering about is the purchase price. I suspect they aren't hoping to get away with Apple-standard price margins in China. I don't know anything about the Chinese cell phone market but I'd be surprised if phones or plans cost anywhere near what is charged in the US.

Actually electronics (and I imagine other stuff) made in China cost more in China to purchase than they do elsewhere. I was in Beijing and cellphones cost more than they did in Hong Kong because China has higher taxes regarding that sort of thing.
