How to Put Your Apple TV 2G Into DFU Mode

These are instructions on how to put your Apple TV 2G into DFU mode.

Step One
Connect your Apple TV to the power outlet and to your computer via a Micro-USB cable.

Step Two
Hold down the Menu and Down buttons on your remote for about six seconds until the light on the device begins to blink rapidly.

Step Three
Let go of both buttons then press and hold the Menu and Play buttons together for another six seconds, then release.

Step Four
iTunes will then detect the device in DFU mode.

before i was only trying menu+play for dfu. now that i tried menu+down and then menu+play it actually worked. thanks!

Amazing! Does work, I found the same instructions all over the net but just couldn't figure out what was wrong. Used a different micro USB cable and voila popped up in itunes immediately after doing these. Seeing as this is the last page I was on before success you get the props. Cheers mate.

i have jailbroken ATV2 and want to restore it to factory settings and iTunes is not recognizing it. I tried this DFU Mode instructions and still no luck of it showing up on iTunes. any help???

Mate do clean restore from iTunes Connect your apple tv on your tv and open up YouTube. When you can see video Come back to me and will tell you want to do next. Forget jailbreaking for now till you can see a YouTube on your tv.

hi guys. If you have trouble getting into DFU Mode. Follow this. Its been working on my ATV 2 since fire core release. 1) Let apple TV restore normally in iTunes to latest software available. 2) if you don't want step 1 to happen ( teathered versions ), than simply let apple tv connect to your tv and turn it on. 3) At this point your season pass should be ( press HOME and PLAY/PAUSE button stage.) and ATV 2 should be plugged in and turned on on your tv with home screen ( movies, youtube etc visible). 4) Now this is crucial. Disconnect HDMI, than power cable. ( no need to put ATV 2 in sleep, just disconnect them while it was on). 5) plug it straight into your computer via micro usb with in 5 secs. A WHITE status light on ATV2 should blink intermediately. wait for 3 -4 blinks and than Press HOME and PLAY?PAUSE button for & seconds and release buttons. 6) Firecore will now says your ATV2 in DFU mode detected and thats it. Thanks guys.

when i plug my apple tv to my computer it does not make a sound adn does not recgnize it also it wont let me go in dfu mode

this is still not working ... the apple tv 2 will not recognize on my itunes... it looks like it may be going into dfu mode but fire is not picking it up and there is no sound when i first plug the apple tv with the usb..ie iphone ipad ipod
