iPhone Alarms Will Not Work Come New Year's Day! [Update]

Posted January 1, 2011 at 1:36am by iClarified
According to numerous complaints on twitter, it seems that the iPhone's alarm clock will not function properly come New Year's Day. This particular glitch in the iOS software will affect all users who use the alarm clock without recurring alarms. According to 9to5mac, the glitch will fix itself on January 3rd. You may recall a similar bug in the iOS software which was later on fixed in iOS 4.2.1.

For now, make sure to set all your alarm clock to reoccur, or repeat on the days you want it to. This bug is present in 4.2.1 and earlier versions of iOS 4.

Update: Apple has responded to this issue

We're aware of an issue related to non repeating alarms set for January 1 or 2. Customers can set recurring alarms for those dates and all alarms will work properly beginning January 3.

FIX that problem by manually setting your iphone 4 to 4th of Jan, then the alarm works! I have NO repeating alarms on either of my iphone 4's. life is just too irregular!

...oh mapple...anyway, there has to be a mix of elements to make this bug kick in, I just tested my alarm and didn't have any issues but then again I believe it has to do with the applications ur running, it's obvious anyway that is bad coding!

Is your alarm set to go off every day of the week including weekends? because the glitch did not occur to me and i was surprised. Then I went to the alarm app, played around with it, and found out that the glitch only happens when not all of the days are checked off but if all are checked then for some reason the alarm foes off.

Not bull. My alarms failed to wake me up today, and I looked to see if they had gone off or not, and they hadn't, so I assumed another glitch from apple. Came back this evening to this news, so I turned out to be right. I have an iPhone 3G on 4.2.1 btw. Stupid Apple.

Simple solution... USE AN ALARM CLOCK.

Affected me on my iPhone 4 -- was an hour late for work as my 2 year old son seemed to also have the apple bug and work up an hour late. Seriously? How many times is it now that they had this issue with what should be a straight forward app? Is it twice? I think it's the third time. This is embarrassing for a "smart" phone Don't they learn for their mistakes? If that happened more than once where I work, heads would roll.

iPhone 4 on 4.1 woke me up fine this morning so it looks like it's a little hit and miss. Strange problem really. You'd think it'd be all or nothing?

It is not bull.. my wife and I have 2x 3GS phones. 1 running 4.2.1 and one running 4.0.2. We both set our alarms. I actually set two. neither woke us up. We were both late for work (yes - working New Years Day!) According to the Apple Forums, apparently this problem is solved using repetitive reminders or changing the date to 3 January! Pretty poor form Apple. And as yet no official word from Steve - Presumably his alarm didn't go off either... "Need an alarm for your phone - There's an App for that! (warning - app may fail without notice) "
