Verizon Starts to Stop Jailbreakers From 'Illegally' Tethering

Following in AT&T's footsteps, Verizon has begun blocking jailbroken customers from tethering their data, according to Forbes.

The Basking Ridge, N.J.-based carrier now requires users have a hotspot-capable data plan if they want to tether data from their smartphones to other devices. Users who try to tether through jailbreak apps like MyWi will be redirected to a Verizon webpage where they can upgrade to a capable plan for an additional $20 a month.

The report also says that AT&T is now automatically placing jailbroken tetherers onto its cheapest data tethering plan at $45 a month.

Ok so this morning I awoke to a text saying welcome to Att and my data was changed from unlimited to datapro 4gb. I just got off the phone with the rep about changing it back and my plan was to ask for proof I was tethering and if none could b provided then I wanted my old plan back. Well instead when she asked what I was calling for I said I would like to know why my plan wad switched. She asked how I knew I was switched and I told her about the text. She asked if I called and talked to anyone about changing it and I said no. Then she told me she had to have her supervisor approve the change. I was on hold for about 15 min and was thinking to myself shit they are just going to give me proof and I'm not getting it back but instead she comes back on and reads me the thing the do about prorates and the new price and the active date for the contract change. It honestly couldn't be easier I think to have switched back.

PDAnet maybe the way to go in this case since it gives u an option to hide ur tethering usage in 2 different levels. However, am not sure how good it is exactly on hiding ur tethering usage but haven't had any notification from AT&T just yet and still on my unlimited plan...let's hope it stays this way.

at&t isn't putting people on the lowest. They are choosing what fits the best for the person. For my gf she is on the $25 2gb plan and I got the $45 $gb.
