T-Mobile: 'We Are Not Going to Get the iPhone 5 This Year'?

Posted September 20, 2011 at 4:09pm by iClarified
T-Mobile USA Chief Marketing Officer Cole Brodman reportedly told employees at a town hall meeting that 'We are not going to get the iPhone 5 this year', according to TmoNews.

A little bit of disappointing news this morning as we just received the above image which shows in no uncertain terms the words of T-Mobile Chief Marketing Officer Cole Brodman. Speaking at a town hall meeting for T-Mobile employees Brodman seemed to confirm that T-Mobile will not carry the iPhone 5 this year.

This will definitely be upsetting to many; however, if Apple does release a 'world' phone it may be compatible with T-Mobile even if it's not officially offered by the carrier.

Hey they are trying to make AT&T happy just in case the buyout goes through. They don't want everyone to jump ship to Tmobile, then Tmobile say maybe we don't want to sell or it will cost you a few extra billion.

I thought the iphones came factory unlocked as default when bought direct from apple (well they are here in the uk). buy it and insert the sim of your choice ... simples

I think the problem is not with telephone calls but 3g/data.. as of now, the phones don't work on the t-mobiles 3g network, different frequency.

I am not sure..but I dont think T-mobile even have 3g services..last time I was in USA (August 2011)...n went to T-mobile store to buy pre paid mobile card..they did cut the sim card for my iphone 4..n they gave me this unlimited data package..but it was only on Edge not on 3g..one more thing I noticed..that whenever my blackberry (it was on roaming in USA) sed to select AT&T it used to be on 3g..and whenever on T-mobile it used to be on Edge..

epic show of ignorance. read the above comment from vix. although att and tmobile are both gsm carriers, they operate on different frequencies for data (for the 3G and 4G). the only reason the iphone can run on tmobile is through jailbreaking and unlocking, because back in the day when EDGE reigned, it was universal no matter what kind of carrier you had. the frequencies at which the iphone must connect to for 3G are not used by tmobile. the carrier chip can only connect to certain broadcast frequencies. if anyone thinks the iphone 5 will have 4G, think again. at least not for att, they JUST launched the 4G network in dallas and a few other cities, and apple wouldn't release a device with a brand new data chipset for 4G when they wouldn't have enough to time test it for the device to work with the iOS, let alone be able to engineer the chipset to work within the device's physical and electrical design.

@ Undertaker..dude I can see from where you coming..I am not talking about your typical ATT iphone..which you might have bought..I am not talking about jailbreaking either..my iphone is factory unlocked..and can use any gsm sim card..there is a world outside USA as well..n they also use iphone.. If you can read my comment..I was also using Blackberry..on roaming..and I can select any carrier on roaming..and use data..when I was connecting to ATT..it was working on 3G...when on T-mobile it was using Edge.. When I went to t-mobile hop to buy prepaid card..they gave me unlimited data..but again I was only able to use Edge..now again read very carefully... The iphone you are talking about is for American market..bu my iphone is from Hong Kong..I have traveled many places and have used 3G in another countries as well..using that country carrier's sim card.. Now coming back to your comment.."the frequencies at which the iphone must connect to for 3G are not used by tmobile." If this is the case..then why I was not able to connect Blackberry for 3G service on t-mobile ?? when I can connect on ATT ?? and for your info..my Blackberry is also from Hong Kong..and on roaming it can use 3G service from any provider..if that provider is offering 3G..tried and tested in may countries.. So please get your facts straight before commenting..
