Apple's Internal Policies on Social Networking Revealed

Apple's Internal Policies on Social Networking Revealed

Posted December 3, 2011 at 12:36am by iClarified
Apple's internal policies on blogging, social networking, confidential information, personal websites, and rumor speculation have been leaked online by 9to5Mac.

The leak follows reports that Apple's firing of an employee for ranting against the company on Facebook was found acceptable by an employment tribunal.

Apple's policies make it clear that "there may be consequences to what you post or publish online including discipline if you engage in conduct that Apple deems inappropriate or violates any Apple policies." According to the company you should "be thoughtful about how you present yourself in online social networks. The lines between public and private, and personal and professional are blurred in online social networks."

Policy Highlights:
● Employees can have their own personal websites, but cannot discuss Apple in anyway on their website
● Apple employees are told not to comment on Apple-related websites (that's why we have email)
● All employees have @apple.com email addresses, but are given an @me.com for personal use (applied more so pre-iCloud)
● No speculating on rumors (as hard as that may be)
● Apple has an HRCCC business strategy: Honesty, respect, confidentially, community, compliance
● Apple's business conduct policy and principles apply to employees, independent contractors, consultants, and others who do business with Apple.

Ok, so I don't understand what this article is really about. ... Am I supposed to be upset about Apples policies? They are perfectly reasonable and understandable. Any company that doesn't demand [at least] this from their employees would be remiss!

I don't think the intention of the article is to make you upset, or to make you feel good. It's just reporting on a (arguably newsworthy) company policy... one that you happen to agree with.

Bullshit! There's no honesty, respect or community. It's confidentiality and compliance! The postings on this site are my own and do not represent Apple’s opinions or positions.
