Apple to Introduce a New Micro Dock Connector?

Apple to Introduce a New Micro Dock Connector?

Posted February 24, 2012 at 1:34am by iClarified
Apple is reportedly planning to ditch the traditional dock connector in favor of a smaller alternative, according to iMore.

We've heard that Apple is getting ready to ditch the dock connector as it's currently sized and implemented on iPods, iPhones, and iPads. The reason isn't anything political, like a new desire to conform to an outdated micro-USB standard, but typically Apple: to save space inside the iPhone 5 for what are now more important components. /i]

iMore suggests the main reason Apple is looking at a smaller dock connector is to gain valuable internal space. Perhaps to make room for a LTE chip. Interestingly, 9to5Mac noticed that before the release of the iPhone 4S, the WSJ reported that "the company has been experimenting with features such as a new way of charging the phone".

If Apple was to design a new micro connector for the next iPhone, they could provide an adapter that would allow consumers to still use their older accessories.

Apple currently has a place what Nokia had in the uk, where in any pub, house or shop 'do you have a charger' they probably do. Then Nokia introduced a new charger... And their share went down, blackberry used to have a universal fit charger, then they changed it and there share went down. I think the ease, popularity universal nature of the charger is quite an important part to a products day to day use. To change it will mess all that up.

Wireless charging will keep apple in the lead. Place the device on or near a charging pad, regardless of case, and it charges. Like my toothbrush :) Kill the connector, it's so old fashioned!

I hope Apple designers are considering things like: Wireless charging/syncing (available technology) Atomic battery (small and doesn't require constant charging, and is relatively safe, therefore a very slim form factor)

Does anyone else realise that the next iPhone won't be called the iPhone 5 because it will actually be the 6th Generation of iPhone?

it will still be iphone 5. just like when iphone 4 was release after 3gs.. 3gs succeeded 3g, so it could have been 4 not 3gs when we are basing on generation of release.

Actually, the iPhone 4 was the 4th generation iPhone but still I don't see a reason why the new iphone shouldn't be call 5.
