MidAtlanticConsulting claims that when more than 500 apps are installed in iOS 6 the operating system begins to crash.
We have discovered, and confirmed with Apple, that there is a virtual limit to the number of Apps. When a user has over 500 apps on their iDevice, they will start having slow booting, auto-rebooting, and other issues due to the OS rejecting the number of apps. Get up to 1000 and your device will not even boot forcing you to restore.
The consulting firm has reportedly discussed this issue with Apple. "After many discussions, we were able to convince them that if they expect the iphone to replace your phone, your pocket gaming system, your smart-home remotes, your TV remotes, you day-timer, etc. then they have to allow almost unlimited apps."
The issue will reportedly be fixed in a future beta of iOS 6.
Actually, I'm surprised that Apple responded positively. I'd have expected them to take the attitude of most of those here, "Who the hell needs all that crap". But the fact that they're willing to adapt means they're still open to unexpected changes, which bears well for their future.
