Instagram Reaches 80 Million Users, Twitter Blocks Their API Access

Instagram has reached a milestone of having 80 million users world wide. However, the image sharing company, which is now owned by Facebook, released an update today which removes Twitter API access.

The company claims that "Twitter no longer allows its users to access this information in Instagram via the Twitter API."

Users can still post their images to Twitter, however the find friends feature is no longer working.

I bet it was Facebook and not Twitter that disabled that feature. All so that users would maybe use and post to Facebook instead.

Instagram is owned by Facebook they bought it this year. All teenagers are using instagram.they are trying to avoid Facebook . Facebook is going to end up just like myspace.

Actually, this could have been a strategy play on Facebook's part. They basically just snuck through a backdoor into Twitter's database and collected 80 million handles they can now add to their database and associate with their users. If you think of it that way, they got a steal. Why wouldn't you want to have the account info of 1/3 of your primary competitors client-base? That just added huge value to Facebook's database, which they will and license as they see fit. IMHO, I think this round goes to Zuckerberg.
