Senator Al Franken Believes AT&T Shouldn't Be Able To Charge Extra For FaceTime

Posted August 5, 2012 at 7:21am by iClarified
After rumors heated up about AT&T and Verizon possible charging extra for FaceTime, Al Franken told The Verge in an interview that he believes the carriers have no right to charge users extra for FaceTime.

The Senator did say that carriers do have the right for "network management" such as charging users extra for using excessive data or throttling users for using too much.

Sprint has stated that it will not charge extra for FaceTime over cellular.

AT&T has every right to price the data the YOU use on THEIR network. And can you please act like an adult and not be name-calling.

I Agree with Texas. Data is data. It shouldn't be charged more because it's FaceTime. If i go over my Data cap than charge me for going over, but not if I want to use X application. Same should apply to tethering data as well. Net neutrality FTW.

If it costs AT&T more to provide the service, they should charge for it. If the price is too high people won't buy it and market forces will bring the price down. In 1998, a striped 9GB hard drive cost $7,000, but market forces and technology advancements drove that down.
