Google's iOS Search App To Get Enhanced Voice Search [Video]

Google's iOS Search app will soon be getting an update that brings with it a new Siri-like voice search feature that resembles Google Now.

Within the next couple of days, Google will roll out an update that lets you search mapping info, songs, information about people and places, as well as perform mathematical calculations.

Often the most natural way to ask a question is by asking aloud. So we've combined our speech recognition expertise, understanding of language and the Knowledge Graph so that Voice Search can better interpret your questions and sometimes speak the answers back as full sentences. This has been available on Android for a few weeks and people love it. It'll soon be available on your iPhone or iPad (iOS version 4.2+).

You just need to tap the microphone icon and ask your question, the same way you'd ask a friend. For example, ask "What movies are playing this weekend?" and you'll see your words streamed back to you quickly as you speak. Then Google will show you a list of the latest movies in theaters near you, with schedules and even trailers. It works for everything from celebrity factoids to the height of Kilamanjaro and more. When Google can supply a direct answer to your question, you'll get a spoken response too.

Lol, the difference is this looks like it works... Siri is such a one trick pony. Love my friends S Voice, nearly ditched my 4S for it.

OK, cool, but you have to open Safari, go to Google and click the mic button before you can do anything. And is it really different from Google Voice except that it talks back? The big problem with this and other apps is that I still can't use it to send a text message or an email with my voice. I have to have another app for that, and none of them or that great. Siri may not be perfect - I don't know because I don't have it. But it does more and is more usable than any other siri-like iOS apps out there.
