Google Insiders 'Not Optimistic' That Apple Will Approve Google Maps App

Google insiders are 'not optimistic' that Apple will approve a dedicated Google Maps app for iOS, reports The Guardian.

Sources at Google familiar with its mapping plans say they are "not optimistic" that Apple will ever approve a dedicated Google Maps iOS app. Though the app is reportedly in development and should be ready to ship by the end of the year, the sources say their plans are only proceeding in "the unlikely event" that Apple will choose to approve the app.

One source told the site that hopes of being improved are slightly higher now that Scott Forstall has been ousted from his position as head of iOS.

However, the site's sources also note that Apple chose not to include apps such as Maps+ and Quick Route that offer Google Maps data to iOS users from the App Store's category for alternative maps apps.

Boy, if you're going to apologize for your own Maps app, point out alternatives and at the same time disallow one of the very best on the grounds that it is from a competitor is silly and inconsistent. Why re-invent the wheel? While I actually like iOS Maps, I still would rather see Apple innovate on things like a 27" Retina display for a Thunderbolt display.

Google should give us the app for jailbroken devices.

15 address combinations and No Such Location later, I give. Sigh, I love Apple, but it does NOT work over here AT ALL.

Posting from Asia. Just read this article then proceeded to search for the directions to my dinner location, which is a fairly well-known place (just far from where I live).

First year product? I thought apple doesn't do "beta testing" on it's fanboys...oh that was when Mr. Apple, Steve Jobs was alive. Talk about half ass software! (Siri and maps)

When is the USA DOJ going to pursue antitrust action against Apple? Refusing Google maps app would be a clear violation of antitrust.

What antitrust? Apple has less than 50% of smartphone market. And less than 5% of the overall mobile phone market. Where do you see a "trust" here?

Vote with your wallet. Instead of swearing at a company's self-interest, just buy something from a different company who supports your interests.

Yeah how dare Google offer an alternative to a widely disliked bundled app? I think Apple are right to restrict choice by denying Google's much beloved map application even if it is without any justification other than being anti-competition. /sarcasm

Come on...even Tim Cook admitted iOS maps sucks. It's funny the way apple fanboys will settle for an inferior product just because it's apple. Apple maps works, it's just an inferior product.
