@william I'm sorry your reply is As bad as this cable. Is the phone waterproof no so why the cable for a few ics come on, if water was the reason for this cable I won't my phone to be waterproof sod the cable £30 cable or £650 phone. How much water do you have round your computer chargers iPod pads phone. How many electrical items/leads in your house are waterproof? Oh may be for use in the rain? Computer wet dead iPhone wet screen dead iPad wet dead ect ect. At least you have a working lead its a joke. But I rely do want to know why you need a waterproof lead? Oh (waterproof) will it come with a certificate stating how much pressure under water it can withstand? may be its just splash proof.

Maybe Apple will coat devices with this in the future http://www.liquipel.com/

if i was charging a device and it fell on water, the facking cable would be the least of my worries. Making a 3rd party lightning cable waterproof would end up making it cost to something like the original lightning cable, which defeats the purpose of it being 3rd party, which I expect to be a lot cheaper than the original ones

Yes! Finally I can charge underwater!

"Apple using its 800-pound-gorilla status in the consumer electronics space to influence more companies to behave ethically on worker rights, environmental issues and more."
If component manufacturers were allowed to make high margins on parts they sell to Apple as Apple does to their customers, then they would be able to treat their workers better.

What is the purpose of a waterproof lead if the idevice is not even waterproof to being with.
matrixmaniac - November 9, 2012 at 12:13am
Oh man! Waterproof in terms of copy protection and licensing. That's what they mean.
william - November 9, 2012 at 9:38am
it needs to be waterproof, as from memory its an ACTIVE cable, it has electronics inside it. therefor it needs to be waterproof to keep those IC's dry if it was to ever get wet
