Does Scott Forstall's Departure Mark the Beginning of Apple's Downfall?

Former Apple engineer, Michael Lopp, suggests that the departure of Scott Forstall from Apple could mark the beginning of its downfall.

Lopp notes that while he was at Apple, the Caffe Macs chatter about Forstall was that he was the only legit successor to Jobs because he had some of the same characteristics.

● He was an asshole, but…
● Success seemed to surround him, and…
● No one was quite sure about the secret recipe to achieve this success.

Lopp says he was surprised to hear about Forstall's departure because he was the closest thing to a Steve Jobs left at Apple.

While I’d continued to hear about the disdain amongst the executive ranks about Forstall after I left Apple, I was still shocked about his departure, because while he was in no way Steve Jobs, he was the best approximation of Steve Jobs that Apple had left. You came to expect a certain amount of disruption around him because that’s how business was done at Apple - it was well-managed internal warfare. Innovation is not born out out of a committee; innovation is a fight. It’s messy, people die, but when the battle is over, something unimaginably significant has been achieved.

The concern is that Apple needs disruptors like Forstall to keep its edge and without that edge the company could begin to fall.

Maybe the departure of Scott isn't a bad thing at all. It could lead to new and fresh innovative blood entering the top of the company from the Apple University. New and talented people will get a chance to reflect their vision on the future of Apple software.

No, Tim Cook's appointment as CEO was the beginning of Apple's downfall.

Tim Cook was a disaster altogether. He doesn't really even run the company, he's just there to fill empty space, but what I meant is that forestall has been a problem for a while, Tim cook is as well, but he is a new problem

this is American style, "better fire him before he takes my job", that was the mentality behind his departure. was the same in the beginning of the 90s when they fire Steve Jobs. i personally wait for the Tim Cook death in business to see Apple rise again with Forstall or other Crazy Lunatic as him or Steve. good luck Forstall in your new projects :)

Forsall's departure isn't going to affect Apple all that much.

Jobs would never approve an incomplete or substandard product. Jobs wouldn't hesitate to admit a mistake. If there is anyone who comes close to Jobs it's Johnny Ive. Good riddance for Apple.

well , so far im happy with the iPhone. i don't care much about moving wallpaper on my phone. or widgets as far as my iphone dont glitch I'm happy. its simple advanced and nice little device.to bad scott got fire. i know he could do more. but if i want and android device. ill buy it. so for innovation, need a couple things but the will catch up or they sink. it will be sad that one of the most valuable company go down hill. hope apple chairmans notice that and change wherever need to be change. but android its an option. if the continue innovating .

While Apple is falling down, he will be away for some time to start his own company, named the Next Next, then will return to Apple to replace Cook, implement what he learned in the mean time, and resuscitate the company.
