Thieves Steal $1.5 Million in iPad Minis From JFK Airport

A pair of brazen thieves have stolen $1.5 million worth of iPad minis from a JFK cargo building, the same building that was the site of the 1978 Lufthansa heist featured in “GoodFellas”, reports The Post.
The crooks struck shortly before midnight on Monday and used one of the airport’s own forklifts to load two pallets of the tablet computers into a truck, according to law-enforcement sources.
They might have gotten more, but the thieves drove off leaving three more pallets of the Apple tablets behind after they were challenged by an airport worker returning from dinner.
The thieves are still at large and investigators have reportedly been giving airport workers polygraph tests as it's believed to be an inside job.
They arrived at Building 261 around 11pm in a white tractor trailer with the letters CEVA on the side. Sources think someone let them into the area and then let them out after they loaded about 3,600 iPad minis into the vehicle.
The iPad minis were being shipped by Cargo Airport Services and had just arrived from China.
With today's technology you would think Apple would be smart enough to install satellite tracking on their smart devices so its trackable even when the device is off so it would be less prone to being stolen, but...... They would rather have you buy a new one because to them it's simply all about money.
you really don't know what you are talking about there are so many hot Apple devices on the streets, my first 2 iPhones I bought for less then $50 and had no problems what so ever, now I got legit new iPhone and iPad because they give them free in my country with an upgrade once a year so you stay with the provider because the government came out with a no contract law so the cell providers here give you all kind of bounces just so you stay.
Should it not be simple to make these unsellable? I'm sure apple will know all serials ina all shipments. Who wants to buy a stolen device you can not upgrade or connect to itunes...
when the first iPhone came out Apple used to block stolen once and that's why you can still find a fix for it in Cydia but right now Apple really don't care they won't get them back any way so they prefer that people use them and spend money at the App store because that's where the real money is!
Apple is not in the business of "manufacturing" semiconductor. They custom design the physical (both interior and exterior) elements of products and the software, much in the same way Nike doesn't have to plant rubber trees in their backyard of global HQ in Portland, Oregon to make shoes.
1. Both smartphone and tablets are being manufactured from the same company in Taiwan.
2. The processor that Samsung sells to Apple is not the reason why we use smartphone or tablet in the first place nor the cause of inventing such a new category of product. It was the new mobile OS and improved multi-touch screen along with the digital ecosystem that Apple had already created through the success of iTune store and of course, the billions of sold iPod units. Samsung doesn't have any of that because it is more costly.
Everything you still benefit from using a portable PC like smartphone or tablets didn't come out a thin air. It took years since the success of iPod with iTune store and later when Apple entirely changed the digital content distribution system with App Store. LET'S NOT FORGET APPLE STORE. BTW, WHAT WAS SAMSUNG DOING FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS OR BEFORE?
60% of tablets being sold worldwide still runs on iOS, i.e., "iPad", a single category of innovative product made possible by Apple.
Samsung Galaxy was released in June, 2009 and two more added models were then released in November, 2009.
In 2010, Samsung released 11 different version of Galaxy (I) units.
In 2011, Samsung released 20 different version of Galaxy (II) units.
In 2012, Samsung released 17 different versions of Galaxy (III) units thus far, as of November.
Since January 2010, there has been 5 different version of iPad (tablets) including iPad Mini, and 6 different version of iPhone (smartphone)-since January, 2007.
That is a total of 11 by Apple compared to 48 by Samsung, without mentioning there was no touchscreen-based smartphone like Galaxy until 2010.
6 months is a long time in computer industry as much as it is in Electronics industry except for console gaming systems, and it took more than a year to go from iPhone4 to iPhone4S, and even according to a rumor about releasing a new iPhone5S soon, that is pretty normal as it should be.
what's cool is that they are all factory unlocked till they get to the cell provider which locks them before they sell them any way my family liked the gifts.
