NexStar Wi-Fi HD Dock Lets You Access Files Straight From Your iPhone

The NexStar Wi-Fi Hard Drive Dock by Vantec now features integrated Wi-Fi and an app that lets you access your files directly from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

The NexStar allows simultaneous connection up to 3 devices. Simply insert any 2.5" or 3.5" SATA hard drive into the NexStar and you are ready to browse your files over the multiple platforms in your arsenal. The NexStar also contains USB 3.0 for when you need fast direct access to your data from your computer making it perfect solution to access any hard drives in seconds.

The NexStar operates over Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and its app can be downloaded from the App Store using this link.


Vantec says the dock is coming soon but has not yet announced pricing. Similar NexStar docks without Wi-Fi cost $25-$50 on Amazon.

Idea good. Design fugly. Wish the had designed it as one of there external hard drive cases rather then just a dock.

it will only be worth it if the wifi can connect to your existing network (or connect through lan cable), that is to act as a NAS, so you dont have to switch wifi networks every time you want to access the hard drive. otherwise it would just create a hassle dealing with multiple networks rather than making things easier!

Yes, you can be connected to internet with this device. It is said at the end of the promo video.

Will u b able 2 access the root filesystem or just minimal things?

I don't think apple will let you do that only files like documents , pdf, etc.

Apple doesn't control your external hard drive. You will be able to access anything on it.
