Apple to Unveil Slimmer Retina MacBook Pro With HD Camera, Dual Mic MacBook Air at WWDC?

Apple is reportedly planning to introduce a slimmer Retina Display MacBook Pro with a HD camera and a dual microphone MacBook Air at WWDC, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Of course, the new notebooks are also said to feature Intel's new Haswell processors.

We expect the new MacBook, featuring an upgrade to Intel’s (US) Haswell processor, will be in the spotlight for Apple at the upcoming WWDC from June 10. Along with the new processor, we expect the following modifications to each product line:

Retina MacBook Pro to be slimmer slightly, along with a camera upgrade. We expect the 13” Retina MacBook Pro will have a slightly slimmer form factor for increasing its portability. Also, we think the camera spec will be upgraded from HD to full HD. This will improve Facetime and video conference quality in the high resolution Retina display.

Kuo believes that Apple won't drop its non-Retina MacBook Pro just yet; however, they reportedly won't be updated to the Haswell processor.

The MacBook Air is expected to get dual built-in microphones similar, says Kuo.

We forecast that this year’s new MacBook Air model will also have dual built-in microphones as a result of positive feedback on this feature in Retina MacBook Pro, which delivers clear voice quality on Facetime and VoIP service.

Kuo also notes that Apple is continuing its shift towards solid state storage with 64% of its notebooks expected to ship with SSDs this year compared to 45% last year. Despite the updates, Kuo believes Apple will see a 10-20% drop in notebook shipments this year as the PC market slows down and the tablet market continues to grow.

The note doesn't appear to address recent rumors that Apple will also unveil a new Mac Pro at the event.

you could be waiting a while. Where will they find the extra battery power required to drive the Retina display in an Air? With the 13 & 15" Pro Retina's it was quite easy - they removed the DVD drive which gave them a lot more room for extra battery cells. They can't really add much more battery to the already slim Air's.

That's exactly the reason why Apple has not done this last year. The retina display has to push more pixels which in term means the GPU has to work harder that will increase battery consumption. If you want a small retina display notebook the 13" Pro is your best option until battery technology evolves. Though the retina MBPs are already very thin and according to this article will even get thinner, I am not sure how much smaller the Air will be in comparison to the new Pros.

What about external monitor capabilities ? I'd like to hook up my camera and use my lightweight laptop or iPad as a field monitor? Why aren't we getting apple to do this?

We aren't "getting Apple to do this" because we don't own the company or even work for it. Any other questions? By the way, have you even tried to submit your functionality suggestions through the appropriate Apple website page, or do you expect them to give a crap about what people post on sites like these? If you do send in your suggestion, please try to express it more clearly than you've done here... you want to hook up your camera to what?!? And use your laptop or iPad where and connected how?!? Just trying to help.
