iPhone 5S to Support Faster LTE-Advanced Networks?

iPhone 5S to Support Faster LTE-Advanced Networks?

SK Telecom is in talks with Apple to put its LTE-A technology already supported by the Samsung Galaxy S4 on the iPhone 5S, according to the Korea Times.

Since last year, Apple has been selling the iPhone 5 that backs up the so-called “multi-carrier telecom technology.” The technology offers the same telecom service by combining two different radio channels into one. But, LTE-A has a feature of LTE carrier aggregation (CA) allowing mobile operators to combine radio channels within and across bands to increase network speeds. While current LTE mobile devices support several LTE radio channels, they can only download on one channel at a time. CA allows simultaneous download on two or more LTE radio channels.

“SK Telecom is approaching Apple to put our LTE-A technology on the upcoming iPhone 5S. We are in the middle of negotiations,” said an SK Telecom executive, requesting anonymity. "There’s no reason for Apple not to use the LTE-A technology."

“Thanks to the Qualcomm technology, Apple can release i-devices globally without the time gap. This is a win-win strategy. With the help of Apple, SK Telecom can take a lead in the race for LTE-A devices and Apple can seek breakthroughs in its stalling phone business,” said the source.

LTE-A would let iPhone owners download up to speeds of 150Mbps, twice as fast as currently available speeds.

The SK Group hopes to have seven LTE-A devices available by the end of the year; however, it's unclear if Apple will be ready to jump on board by the time the iPhone 5S ships.

Rogers and Bell in Canada already have this in select cities. Rogers calls it LTE MAX Bell has not named it. Most of Rogers LTE coverage supports 150mbps and Bell just has 2 zones with these speed but has a large LTE network overall. You can buy devices on their network that support this already.

Re waste everybody has to call your Congress person & insist that any Telecomm leasing public airwaves must offer unlimited data otherwise they must either give up their share of bandwidth or share it with their competition! People I know in the EU pay the Equivalent of $50 a month! For unlimited everything! These Phones are just going to use more & more Data & the Telecomm's in the E U make a profit at $50 a month & here in America so Telecomm's are charging more then three times that with lower costs on their part fuel & labour are cheaper in America then in the EU so are the taxes! & the EU Telecomm's still make huge profits! Now my complaint is not the cost but the lack of service!

the big downside of faster mobile data speed is you waste so much data and you have to pay for it unless you are on an unlimited data plan, example: checking youtube videos and it will buffer the entire video and when you end up not watching the whole thing, it is a data consume but not benefit from it but then again you have to pay for it.
