AT&T Offers $200 Off Early iPhone 5 Upgrades, Brings Cheaper Mobile Share Plans

Posted July 22, 2013 at 3:18pm by iClarified
AT&T is beginning to offer $200 off early iPhone upgrades to bring the cost from $650 for a 16GB iPhone 5 to $450. Those who are currently not eligible or reduced pricing (must pay full off contract price for a device) are only eligible for this offer.

This move is most likely aimed towards reducing iPhone 5 inventory, so if you are currently looking to buy an iPhone 5 but were stuck with full retail pricing, then this is a good deal to pick up.

The carrier also introduced two new mobile share plans this week, which will start rolling out July 26. A new 300MB per month plan will be priced at $20. Additionally, the carrier will also offer mobile share in a new 2GB option ($50). AT&T previously only offered 1GB and 4GB.

Available July 26, new and existing customers will have two new Mobile Share plan options to choose from — 300 MB or 2 GB of data with unlimited talk and text. The 300 MB plan is only $20 a month, with additional costs per device added. Now, customers with basic and quick-messaging devices can share data and unlimited talk and text for as low as $50 a month and smartphone customers for $70 a month. The new 2 GB plan provides another choice for customers whose data needs exceed our existing 1 GB plan available today.

It is clear that AT&T is making a push for Mobile Share options for its customers. Hopefully those grandfathered with unlimited data can keep that as long as they wish.

I couldn't agree with you! AT&T just converted my unlimited data plan to the 5GB Data Pro plan which costs $50.00. I was paying $30.00 for my unlimited data pland and now I am stuck paying $20.00 more due to this stupidity. I will call to complain and threaten to cancel my service if this remains unresolved.

Probably going to have to go through with it, they are getting pretty comfortable forcing people off the unlimited plans and on to overpriced data restricted plans

I complained and got a supervisor on the line who finally agreed to readd my unlimited data plan because they say that I had it on my line.

This is nothing new. You've been able to drop $200 off an iPhone early upgrade dating back to the 3GS. That's how I flip phones every year. $550 for 32gb every year. Sell model prior for $500 and only spend $50 a year for upgrades.
