According to data from a recent report by App Annie, Google Play downloads surpassed Apple's iOS App Store for the first time, coming in 10% higher than Apple. However, Google still lagged behind Apple in revenue, as iOS apps generated 2.3x more revenue than Android apps.

As of Q2 2013, app downloads in Google Play were about 10% higher than those in the iOS App Store. Though Google Play led the iOS App Store in one key measure, there still remained a wide gap in app monetization, as the iOS App Store generated 2.3x the app revenue of Google Play.

The report claims that Google Play's growth was driven by emerging markets like Brazil, India and Russia. Google did close the gap on revenue as well.
