Apple to Unveil New Apple TV on September 10th?

Apple may be planning to unveil an updated Apple TV device at its September 10th press event, reports Panjiva.

According to the site, Apple received a shipment described as "Set Top Box with Communication Function" from BYD Precision Manufacture in Shenzhen, China on August 11th. Another shipment with the same description was delivered on August 18th and yet another on August 25th. The shipment description was on the original bill of lading obtained from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Panjiva believes these shipments to either be Apple's long rumored TV product or an updated version of the existing Apple TV.

They offer a few notes to help you make up your mind:
● About a year and a half ago, news broke that BYD was a new supplier to Apple.
● Since then, we’ve only seen four shipments from BYD to Apple — the three described above, as well as one shipment described as “PC Portable” on August 18th of this year.
● The August 25th shipment weighed 16,628 kilograms.
● The August 18th shipment also weighed 16,628 kilograms.
● The August 11th shipment weighed 7,044 kilograms.
● Apple has received previous shipments for “set top boxes” — most recently, on December 5, 2012, from Hon Hai. This shipment consisted of old school Apple TV’s, as indicated by the model number listed on the bill of lading: A1427.

Apple has been steadily adding content to the Apple TV. A recent update brought five new apps: Vevo, Disney Channel, Disney XD, The Weather Channel, and Smithsonian Channel.

Interestingly, a recent report from Venture capitalist and former TechCrunch reporter MG Siegler said Apple may be planning a television product for launch as early as November. Siegler noted that the product is rumored to have a new way of interacting with it.

iClarified never bothered to report on the discovery of "PlexConect", an ingenious way of watching movies on the ATV3 without jailbreak.

AirPlay ... Roku can't do that. I have had the Roku 2 since it came out as it "did more". But I broke down and got the Apple TV and love it. Interface is nicer (not that you need it...). AirPlay and Mirroring/Video Out is great if you have the devices needed to take advantage of that. I think YouTube is on Apple TV and not on Roku.
