iOS Continues Closing the Gap on Android in the U.S.

Apple's iOS continues to steadily close the gap on Google's Android, according a comScore report that identifies key trends in the U.S. smartphone industry for July 2013. Examining the three month period ending July, 2013 compared to the three month period ending April, 2013, iOS increased 1.2% in market share while Android decreased 0.2%, BlackBerry decreased 0.8%, and Symbian decreased 0.2%.

Apple ranked as the top smartphone manufacturer with 40 percent OEM market share, while Google Android led as the #1 smartphone platform with 52 percent platform market share. Google Sites ranked as the top mobile media property, while Facebook was the top individual app.

Smartphone OEM Market Share
143.3 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones (60 percent mobile market penetration) during the three months ending in July, up 3 percent since April. Apple ranked as the top OEM with 40.4 percent of U.S. smartphone subscribers (up 1.2 percentage points from April). Samsung ranked second with 24.1 percent market share (up 2.1 percentage points), followed by HTC with 8 percent, Motorola with 6.9 percent and LG with 6.8 percent.

Smartphone Platform Market Share
Android ranked as the top smartphone platform in July with 51.8 percent market share, followed by Apple with 40.4 percent (up 1.2 percentage points), BlackBerry with 4.3 percent, Microsoft with 3 percent and Symbian with 0.3 percent.

Top Smartphone Properties & Apps
Google Sites ranked as the top web property on smartphones, reaching 92.6 percent of the mobile media audience (mobile browsing and app usage), followed by Facebook (86.3 percent), Yahoo! Sites (81.7 percent) and Amazon Sites (66.8 percent). Facebook ranked as the top smartphone app, reaching 76.1 percent of the app audience, followed by five Google-owned apps: YouTube (53.7 percent), Google Play (53.6 percent), Google Search (53.5 percent), Google Maps (46.2 percent) and Gmail (45.0 percent).

also I work at a cell phone store and lab and I never push a phone on customers, when they walk in they usually already know what they want and I supply Apple or Android, as long as they are happy when they leave I'm happy!

Why not just use what phone you prefer instead of making all these comments? Don't just hide behind the computer and making these comments. Mine is better, Mine is better Mine is better...... that's really unprofessional and childish. Just imagine you are speaking out in public, would you say out loud what you typed here? If not then you are just hiding behind a PC, if so try it and see what reaction you will get from the general public/group of iPhone users/Group of Android users about your un-professional comments.

iOS is iOS Android is Android. Use what you prefer. Why have to "win" or "loose" like this? Some people are like that, insecurity and paranoia will make them put others (Things or people) down in order to make what you own or are referring to look better.
