Samsung Says Its Next Smartphones Will Have 64-Bit Processors

Following Apple's announcement of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, Samsung has announced that it plans to release a smartphone with a 64-bit processor and expand its business in China, reports the KoreaTimes. Samsung’s mobile business chief Shin Jong-kyun made the comments at a weekly meeting with chief executives of Samsung’s key affiliates in Seocho-dong, southern Seoul.
“Samsung understands that Apple intends to boost its mobile business in China, as well as in Japan, meaning that we should try harder in these countries,” Shin said.
“Apple believes that it can boost its market share in China thanks to stronger brand awareness. However, with better pricing, a diversified product lineup and solid partnerships with local channels, Samsung plans to keep its current momentum in China. We have no reason to allow Apple to steal market share from us,” said one low-ranking industry executive.
Samsung is top smartphone seller in China with 19.4% of the market. Apple has 4.3% of the market.
Shin also confirmed that Samsung would be releasing a smartphone with a 64-bit processor.
“Not in the shortest time. But yes, our next smartphones will have 64-bit processing functionality,” Shin said.

True. It's the same thing with the phone cameras these days. Having more mega pixels doesn't always mean a better picture. Apple explained that well at the keynote Tuesday. Gimmicky specks for clueless and ignorant people. That's what I like about apple products. They just don't throw features in their products for the hell of it like other companies do. They take there time to perfect them the right way then they implement them into products. That's one reason why apple hasn't made a bigger screened phone yet. Ya they could easily make one but then they would have to skimp on power and design. Along with other specs. People are so fast to judge and complain but they don't realize what it actually takes to engineer and produce a product.
Another thing. Even though I'm not a big fan of samsungs copycat knockoff products I do have to say that they do make some good screens, larger displays, chips and storage options. Even the ones used apple. Which by the way are engineered and designed by apple. Samsung just Makes them. That's one thing that people complaining saying "every component inside apple products are made by Samsung" don't realize. Samsung makes them, apple designs them.
Samsung isn't trying to copy Apple. No, it's trying to follow Apple. Samsung is saving time and money by following Apple's lead, always trying to offer a cheaper alternative. They will dominate as Toyota for cars, but Apple will be the Ferrari. And I say this in terms of marketing and placement strategy.
Thats don't make any difference,the thing about having a processor with 64-bit its that the OS, apps and kernel have the chance to take advantage of it, but thats not going to happen with samsung cuz they don't have there own OS, it means that even if the put a 64-bit it will be for nothing until Android its update to 64-bit... its all marketing to sell more phones you know...

Wtf, hows that a copy? Just coz Apple came up with that 1st, that doesn't mean other phone companies can't also come up with that too. Get your facts right in what you say.
How is that a copy? It's not like they apple is the only company who can have a 64 bit processor that's like saying different computer brands copied another for having a 64 bit processor, a fingerprint scanner and other hardware it's not copying its using the same stuff in the device to compete.. That's what it's all about is competition Samsung is better than Apple at certain things and Apple is better Samsung at certain things. It's not copying. Apple copies from companies too so don't try to play it off like they are innocent because no one is.

64Bit processor wouldn't be nothing without 64bit operating system and optimized applications for it. So there will be high pressure on Google to make a 64Bit version of ANdroid. Whatever will Samsung do they will have to wait until it will be supported. And that's a big advantage of apple hardware-centric products. Now its google turn to show how easy would be to switch to DalvikVM 64bit... since it is interpreted currently to 32bit version of ARM, we would like to see how smooth it will be when samsung will setup 64bit cpu which is not an issue for them. But it would be same pain in the ass like it was for the Windows, unlike Apple - android is running on multiple ARM based chips from many manufacturers. Many devices would cause many headaches to lot of people. I guess they wouldn't be able smoothly transform as apple is presenting. Yes they would but most of those CHINA CHEAP MADE DEVICES and not only those will be dead. Just saying. Maybe I'm wrong. But I remember when i installed Windows Vista 64Bit on my computer, yes my computer was 64 bit long time before I used 64bit Operating system. And this would be the same with Android, lot of people will be running Samsung Galaxy S5 with 64Bit CPU, not using it in proper way,since their operating system would be 32 bit still.
I thought 64bit was just the processor can handle larger amounts of ram more than 32bit. If the iPhone 5s only has 1gb or even if it did have 2gb there's no point in 64bit
The 64bit move is certainly preparing for long term. While 64bit processor will still give some benefit, the current smart phones (regardless android or iOS) probably won't have any significant benefit yet.
But I do see tablets will be able to take advantage on this architecture. I think it's good move. But I still prefer to have a lightly bigger screen first. :)
Yep apple anounced it and they go into panic mode. The start realeasing statements and everything and by doing that they let everybody know that we have to catch up too. Its nothing new but why go into panic mode when youre always dishing on apple.
