Recently FireMonkeys asked me to participate in a survey. The first question was how like it'd be for me to recommend RR3 to someone. This was my response: I definitely will NOT recommend RR3 because the game was just ruined because of money. It pretends to be a free game, but I can no longer can play it without paying for it, unless I spend 20 hours a day racing 10-minute races to earn a few R$. It used to be the best racing game, or maybe best overall game ever released for mobile devices. But after the first big update the game became all about EA making money on it. Prizes decreased, the need for car servicing became much more frequent to the point I just can't play a 4-lap race without having to service the car right away. I can no longer play as many times I want racing my favorite car at my favorite track. On the first couple of versions of this game all I had to do was to change the engine's oil for R$65 and could play again after a 5 minutes. Now I have to pay over R$1,000 and wait at least 45 minutes. What's the fun in that? I could buy any car I wanted, race at any event or track I wanted, then suddenly all the cars I wanted to buy became locked. I was saving R$ for buying a car, then not only it became locked, a new event was put before the one that car was in, so I had to play it all, spend all the money I saved buying cars I didn't want to. Just by buying the cars I couldn't win all the races because I also had to upgrade them, which used to be a cool thing. But the news cars have such a deep upgrade tree that I have to spend 10 or 20 times the R$ I spent buying the cars themselves just to have them fully upgraded. And the last upgrade of each kind requires me lots of gold. Worse, as almost all the new events, it'd require me to buy the last car in the series for 100+ of gold. And I only earn 3 of them for each level I reach. Is it fair? No, it's not even close to being fair. So what happened? I didn't finish that level and never bought the car I wanted. And that hasn't happened only once. And guess what eventually happened? I quit playing the only mobile game that I've ever play more than a couple of minutes. I quit playing the game I couldn't wait a free time to spend it playing. I quit playing the game that used to be so fun that'd spend hours playing. I quit playing the game where spending real money was just for those who wanted to take shortcuts. I quit playing the game I was constantly asking my friends to join so I could play against them.

Also, re "Meet the Crew", you can only access this if you have a grage value of at least US$25MM. There is no mention of how much each crew member costs and I have not found anything via searching the net yet. (The forum is down for maintenance as I type this.) So, I don't know if this costs real money (like VIP Service), R$, or gold. My gargage value is only $21MM+ so I cannot hire the crew yet. :( However, here are some details: Manager - you need a garage value of at least US$25MM. If you hire him and win the next race you earn 2X R$ (It will be interesting to see if you would get 4 times R$ if you hired him for your first race of the day when the Daily Bonus is available.) Agent - you need a garage value of at least US$25.25MM. If you hire her and win the next race you earn 2X Fame. Auto Engineer - - you need a garage value of at least US$25.5MM. If you hire him and win the next race your Servicing Level remains the same as it was at the beginning of the race.

Actually, the prize money has roughly doubled and it looks like upgrades have been reduced in price. For the Ferraris the costs are as follows: FF = US$585K; 458 Italia = US$720K; F12 Berlinetta = 320 Gold. The delivery time for the FF is 16 hours; don't know about the others yet. Level 1 upgrades for the FF (that's the only one I could buy (I already was in the Vanguard series so I never saw a limitation on buying the FF) are almost all in the US$20-30K (waiting for them to install now). Delivery time for each of the level 1 upgrades is 2 hours. There are 7 categories: engine, drivetrain, body, suspension, exhaust, brakes, and tires & wheels. I would suspect, similar to the previous updates, that the latter series of upgrades require gold. FYI - I am currently at Fame Level 181, but drive with all assists at low (I'm in my 50s and my reflexes and reactions aren't as good as when I was younger. :) ) I haven't used any real money, but did sign up for one offer back in v1.1 I think that gave my 340 gold. All other gold has been earned. The only car I bought that required gold is the Porsche 918 RSR Concept. This is a great car to have although when I bought it you could upgrade it to 100% with just R$; I don't know if you can do that in the latest version. Also, I don't upgrade when gold is required becasue I'm saving it for another car that I may want in the future (perhaps the Berlinetta). Therefore, for example, my Agera only has 17 of 24 upgrades. This is because to upgrade for the remaining 7 upgrades would cost over 1,000 gold which = over US$99. That will never happen even though I can easily afford it. As I've mentioned on the FireMonkeys forum, I would happily pay $40 or so for the app without IAPs. However, the way it is set up now you either have to hack the system or pay over US$1,000 to have a fully functioning experience.

This game is so real that you need to spend your actual money to buy a car.

Ya. Real nice update. Has anyone looked to see what it takes to buy the Vanguard series vehicles? You need 30-something trophies in Vanguard just for the privilege of dropping $50 to $100 on the Ferrari series. Winning a drag race at $850, and a cup at $4000, it'll take a year to get enough cash for 1 car. Refurb Xbox at GameStop is $129. Forza 4 is under $50. Tell EA to stick it where the sun don't shine.

1 year? Well... if one plays everyday for at least 12 hours there might be a chance!

What a nice update. Probably the least expensive Ferrari costs 1 million golds, which you can never get just by playing without spending real money. Have they decreased the race prizes as again this time around? I'm not playing the game that I once considered the best mobile racing game ever, when it was all about fun in the very beginning... and became all about money. Way to go, EA/FireMonkeys!
