Alongside the new iPad Air and the new Retina Display iPad Mini, Apple has quietly updated the first generation iPad Mini with a new 'Space Gray' version.

The new model is available from the Apple Online Store and 9to5Mac reports that some physical stores are already selling the device. Customers should call in to verify that their local store has the model in stock since it's not available at all locations yet. The tablet comes in a 16GB version and has been available on Apple's website since Tuesday.

The new Space Gray color replaces the previous black slate color. Pricing starts at $299 for the Wi-Fi version and $429 for the cellular model.

They do this as a cost cutting measure. Anodization is a process where you dip a bunch of aluminum pieces in a tank of chemicals and they come out in the color you want. In manufacturing when you want to switch from anodizing one color to another, you'd have to wash out the entire anodization chambers and tools and re-calibrate your coloring. Having all iPads in the same space grey will mean not having to do the above. That's all.

sneaky move by Apple... not good - meant to confuse folks who are not well informed on their purchases

Don't Worry. They are crazier fellows than what we think.

people without enough money. thats why apple continues to sell ipad 2 along with ipad air (ipad 5) and ipad mini 2 there's a lot of price sensitive people out there especially here in uk who appreciate the cheaper NON RETINA models. Because its the retina displays that cost so much money
