President Obama: 'I'm Not Allowed for Security Reasons to Have an iPhone'

Posted December 5, 2013 at 9:08am by iClarified
President Barack Obama revealed that he is not allowed to have an iPhone due to security concerns, explaining his use of a bulky BlackBerry, reports SecurityWeek.

"I'm not allowed for security reasons to have an iPhone," Obama told a group of young people at the White House for an event promoting his health care law. He added that his daughters Sasha and Malia spend a lot of time on their iPhones.

BlackBerry's security has kept the device popular in Washington, despite its rapid loss of market share in the U.S. Obama had to fight to keep a BlackBerry when first entering the office and his emailing has been limited to a very small group of friends and senior officials.

Despite not being able to use an iPhone, Obama has been spotted using the iPad.

This is old news. The President uses a Blackberry because the secret service has had a chance to evaluate and modify it to their satisfaction and doing so with a new phone is a major effort. When it comes to security, sticking with a platform and whittling away at any newly discovered bugs is the safest path. Switching platforms starts the whole process over. This isn't an endorsement of the inherent security of out-of-the-box Blackberrys.

Bulky BlackBerry? Is that meant to be a slight? BlackBerrys are within grams of the iPhone, plus they don't require cases for "my precious". There are certainly negatives to the BlackBerry versus the iPhone, but I don't think "bulky" comes anywhere near the top of the list.

Blackberry's security is only as strong as its weakest link. It is not impenetrable. Keep that bluetooth off Mr. President ;)

This article has absolutely nothing to do with Samsung but yet you are still fascinated by them aren't you. BTW the iphone was not the first phone with a fingerprint scanner. I bet you didn't call apple copycats.

Apples scanner is different though, it doesn't work like bbm did since it's scanned differently and it's on the home button and it's a new type of scanner they're using, technically not stolen!

No wonder there the iPhone is made for spying on us, its the only phone on the market that we can't take out the battery while not wanting anybody to listen or know where we are!!! BUT I STILL CAN'T GIVE IT UP!
