Fixya has released a new 'Holiday Tablet Report' that identifies top issues with popular tablets including the Apple iPad Air, Microsoft Surface 2, Amazon Kindle HDX, and iPad Mini with Retina Display.

Fixya looked at over 10,000 fix-it requests to determine the most common issues with each device. Below are the major findings.

---
The Microsoft Surface 2 is a great option for the businessman or woman – its full range of Microsoft Office features really appeals to professionals who are on the go. However, its lack of app developers has left the Surface 2 seemingly void of software support for popular apps available on other tablets.

While Apple’s new iPad Air has received extremely positive reviews overall, it does have a few problems that consistently crop up for owners. A common issue across all iPad platforms is a crashing Safari browser, a problem that seems to persist with the newest iterations of the device. The iPad Air is also reported to have screen issues, with users reporting grey lines or a yellow tint that cuts across half of the screen.

Fixya users reported battery issues with the new Amazon Kindle HDX, as well as its inability to charge quickly, which is a definite hindrance for a tablet – especially when used for travel. The Kindle HDX’s pre-installed Silk Browser has also proven somewhat unreliable, tending to freeze when opening a new tab and/or navigating to a new web browser.

The iPad Mini is a solid purchase for entertainment seekers, but it does have its own unique problems that differ from its larger form factor cousin. The biggest problem, known as “ghosting”, happens when users flip between apps and the previous image will still be lightly visible on the screen for a short period of time. Ghosting does present user experience issues, as the iPad mini is touted for its gorgeous retina display.

Hmm the iPad Mini seems very tempting, I have an iPad 2 which is good for reading e-books, but does start to get heavy after 20-30 minutes of reading! Thanks for the article, very informative! www.LockscreenFun.com

What annoys me with this type of article is you only get half the relevant facts. They dont mention how big the problems are overall. The article says 'over 10,000 fix-it requests' but is this 5% of the total sale or 10% or 0.5% or even less. Dont get me wrong - these fix-it requests are genuine concerns for the people reporting but article should end each topic with just how bad/often is it.

The Surface 2 speaker issue is not a hardware issue in my opinion. The speaker quality is as good as in my iPad. Now, there are some sound issues when streaming video or audio from some sites, mostly those using flash. There have been some patches and that have improved this situation. Still, a full fix hasn't been released but it will eventually.

The Air is my 3rd iPad and its better then i thought it would be especially the amazing battery life and i have no idea about what problems they are talking about. i got my iPad Air with iOS 7.0.4 so maybe Apple fixed the problems that they are talking about with this version. I also heard about yellow glue lines when the Air came out they said that those lines will disappear when the glue dries, i don't know if they did or not, by the time i got the Air I'm guessing Apple fixed that to because my touch screen is working and looking perfectly.
