Amazon to Reportedly Launch Their Music Streaming Service Thursday

Amazon could launch their music streaming service as soon as tomorrow (Thursday), according to multiple sources. Earlier this year, it was rumored that the company was in initial talks to launch its streaming service.

Amazon's music streaming service will be bringing a catalog of music that is six months and older available for free to all of its Prime members. Amazon has already reached agreements with two of the three major music labels including Sony, Warner Music Group. Universal Music Group will not be included at the launch of the service.

One source form the music industry said they were behind the idea because it showed that music was a priority for Amazon. "We wanted to support it. It is a stepping stone. It shows that music is a priority for Amazon."


Amazon's streaming service won't have as large as a library as Spotify or Pandora, however it will be another way to entice customers to signup for Amazon Price ($99/year). Currently Amazon Prime members get free 2 day shipping on Amazon-fulfilled items as well as access to the video streaming service.

Apple acquired Beats earlier this month in an effort to bolster their music offerings, with the possibility of launching their own music streaming service.

BuzzFeed also repots that the service will works across multiple devices, will let users play songs as many times as they want and will even have some offline capabilities.
