Apple's iPhone 5s is the top selling smartphone worldwide, according to a new report from ABI Research.

Samsung and Apple account for the majority of the top 20 smartphone models sold worldwide in Q1 2014. Heavily marketed flagship devices like the iPhone 5s 16GB and Samsung’s Galaxy S4 i9500 16GB top the rankings.

“Samsung’s dominance is driven by its market leading 27% market share and despite Apple’s lower market share its small, clearly tiered portfolio creates significant volume for just a few SKUs,” commented Nick Spencer, senior practice director, ABI Research.

Sony, LG, and Xiaomi made up the rest of the top 20. Xiaomi's top device by shipment volume is the Redmi. Other smartphone vendors are struggling to compete, says ABI Research. However, Huawei and HTC are expected to return to the top 20 after the launch of the HTC One M8 and Huawei Ascend P7.

“The presence of the Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 16GB and iPhone 4s 8GB in the top five is testament to the enduring appeal of these models and the vendors strong brand, enabling a long and profitable lifecycle, that other vendors can only dream of,” finished Spencer.

that's one simple chart lol. Not sure it needs to be in chart form, even. Some numbers or other items might have been nice.

If Samsung could just focus on making higher end phones and tablets. Apple is nothing without Steve Jobs and it starting to show.

Say what you want, but Jobs or no Jobs, Apple is the same as they were, the only thing showing is your gimmick. What has changed other than the CEO since he left? Did iPhone sales decrease? Did the products suddenly become unstable or to be exact, did Apple close down?

How can it be popular without even existing? Look at the picture it talks about Q12014. That's between January and March this Year.

Its a fact that 2nd and 4th sales are one, because they are both "Galaxy S4". If not than its a fact that the iPhone 5s should also be split into its MODELS (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3939) Then still the S4 would have more sales.

Nice trick who ever did this chart, they split up the S4 sales into the 2nd and 4th place just to make it apear that the iPhone5s sold better than the S4.

Nice joke, what if I told you there are different models, look at the storage, doesn't that help distinguish, that's like if you were to say galaxy exhibit is the same as s3, player, etc. any galaxy is different, even if it's the same number but with different area of the countries.

If the 2nd and 4th place are different, than they are just as different as the 3 kinds of the iPhone 5s (GSM model, CDMA model, GSM model China do you want a reference? look at the MODELS http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3939). i9505 and i9500 are both Galaxy S4, they where only split up to make it look like iPhone 5s sold more.
