Apple to Release Gold Master of OS X Yosemite on October 10th?

Apple is planning to release a gold master of OS X Yosemite around October 10th, reports 9to5Mac. The company will likely continuing releasing preview updates every couple weeks until a final Developer Preview is released on September 29th, say sources.

Apple plans to release Yosemite for free on the Mac App Store toward the end of October. Like last year, it is possible that Apple will talk final details about the new OS X release at a media event. Apple is planning to unveil its long-in-the-works fitness and health wearable wristband at a media event in October, so perhaps Apple will discuss the final logistics of OS X Yosemite’s launch during that same keynote.

The site has also heard from sources that Apple is finishing work on the much rumored 12-inch MacBook with Retina display and either an iMac or standalone monitor with a 4K resolution display. It's currently unclear if the new notebook will be called a MacBook Pro or a MacBook Air. Perhaps it could even be a new line. It's also unclear if the desktop monitor or computer will be marketed as a Retina device. Currently the iMac and Thunderbolt display have a resolution of 2560x1440 and a new device with a 4K resolution of 3840x2160 would not be a pixel-doubling of the previous resolution.

The new Macs will be marketed alongside OS X Yosemite which offers more color icons, thinner text, and sharper corners that will really be noticeable on their improved displays. “Those interface elements appear especially optimized on higher-resolution screens, so it makes sense for us to debut new Retina Macs around the time of Yosemite’s release,” a source said.

Finally, Apple is said to be working on updates to iMovie and Final Cut Pro X which will boost their support for editing, exporting, and importing 4K video.

The new Macs are currently scheduled for release in Q3 or early Q4; however, Intel chipset constraints could push back the launch to early 2015. If you are interesting in testing out Yosemite, a public beta will be released tomorrow.

Really like new design of osx Yosemite, looks really clean and especially excited about the messages app. Standard SMS/MMS and iMessage will be extremely useful as I can do work and edit video without having to be distracted by my iPhone or ipad to respond to a message.

Microsoft has something to copy now! lol they bragged about how better they were and then they see a whole bunch of upgrades osx gets rather than a scrambled interface that actually keeps the layout, and dill gates was all focused on laptop and tablet bullshit.
