Check Out the Upcoming BlackBerry Passport's Square Display [Video]

Posted August 15, 2014 at 6:45pm by iClarified
Check out this video from Carphone Warehouse that reveals some of the features of the upcoming BlackBerry Passport. The video has been since been pulled, possibly because it went live early, but a copy is still available for viewing below.

The Passport is set to compete with the iPhone 6 this coming September. It features a large square display, a new touch-sensitive physical keyboard that recognizes gestures performed over it, as well as a new digital assistant with its own dedicated button. Carphone Warehouse also reveals that the smartphone's edging is made of stainless steel.

Last month, BlackBerry said it chose the 4.5-inch 1440x1440 sized display because it's optimized for working with documents.

"Academic research has shown that the optimal number of characters on a line in a book is 66 characters (most current rectangular smartphones show approx. 40 characters; the BlackBerry Passport will show 60 characters). The BlackBerry Passport offers its size and aspect ratio to accommodate these characters, making it the ideal device for reading e-books, viewing documents and browsing the web. No more worrying about portrait or landscape modes, and no; you aren’t missing anything."

Take a look at the video below and let us know what you think!

I thought Blackberry went out of business. Guess they don't know when to give up already.

Not anything better, shares aren't anywhere, platform is old and dragged out surviving, and worst yet, same old keyboard.

The platform is 18 months old and you have no clue whatsoever. The passport comes with a major revamp of the UI (BB 10.3) and it includes Android 4.4.3 runtime.

Same how? 3 rows vs 4, 1 virtual row and touch sensitive. Combined for first time with a usable, big and 1440x1440 high res screen. Vastly different than anything ever before it.
