Early Benchmarks for the New 27-Inch Retina iMac [Chart]

Primate Labs has posted some early 64-bit benchmarks for the Core i5 Retina iMac obtained from its Geekbench Browser.

The Core i5 Retina iMac is slightly faster than the other Core i5 iMacs, and is competitive with the Core i7 iMacs in single-core performance. However, the Core i7 iMacs are up to 20% faster in multi-core performance. These Geekbench results aren't surprising since all of the iMacs use Haswell processors; any performance increase is due to the increase in clock speed.

The site also compared the Retina iMac to the Mac Pro. Notably, the Core i5 Retina iMac is faster at single-core tasks but slower at multi-core tasks.

Apple should release standalone 5K monitor immediately for Mac Pro users.

This needs to be rumored. They would make more sales than ever other than making a computer for a Mac inside the monitor. Never less, it would be cool.

The Mac Pro can't drive a monitor like the one used by the 27 inch iMac, that was the whole point of the custom TCOM. The other issue is that the Mac Pro can barely do 4K right. All of Apple's first generation new screen technology has had the problem, that was the another point towards the custom TCOM.
