Posted January 5, 2015 at 10:58pm by iClarified
Parrot has introduced the RNB6, a new in-dash car system that supports both Apple CarPlay, Siri Eyes Free, and Android Auto.

The device packs a 7-inch 720p IPS touchscreen, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, and 5GHz Wi-Fi. The RNB6 runs a custom version of Android 5.0 Lollipop that delivers integrated navigation, driving assistant services, vocal commands, a wide-angle lens dash cam, and more. Other device specs include rear ports for GPS, HDMI, and a stereo microphone.

Parrot has not revealed the pricing for the RNB6, but it will be available in the second half of 2015. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.

Looks like a double din unit, Parrot would be mad to develop an aftermarket unit that didn't fit either a single din or double din aperture. So width wise and height wise i would say yes, but the depth might be an issue if you have say an e46. Although it does look less deep than traditional double din head units so the depth may not be an issue or it maybe a very tight fit. Expect to see considerably cheaper fitting adapters on ebay 6 or so months after release.

A lot of folks are fitting double DIN units into E90's , I fitted a double DIN into my previous 2007 MY E87 without the headaches I had on my E46. Probably best to drop parrot a line about harness adapters and fitting kits and see what they come back with. By all accounts the previous Parrot connected car head unit wasn't a great success, but maybe they learnt some lessons with this unit.

Not quite, automotive electronics and electrical systems have a substantial investment in terms of being able to withstand use in that relatively unique environment,a tablet will not be engineered to the same environmental standards. Examples are withstanding electrical systems switching and interference through to being baked at 85c for a few hours and expected to function until the interior temperature reduces.
