Google Competes with AirPlay, Launches Google Cast For Audio

Google Competes with AirPlay, Launches Google Cast For Audio

Posted January 5, 2015 at 5:57pm by iClarified
Google today launched Google Cast for Audio giving users a way to stream their favorite music to other Google Cast-ready speakers, sound bars, and receivers. Google Cast for audio is an update to the Google Cast SDK, but Google says hardware that supports Google Cast won't be available until the Spring.

Google Cast for Audio works with Android Phones and Tablets, iPhone, iPad, and from the Chrome browser of your Mac or Windows PC. Users can stream audio from different apps including Pandora, NPR One, Google Play Music, Rdio, iHeart Radio, Songza, TuneIn, and Beyond Pond.

To stream audio, all you have to do is hit the cast button, and Google notes the stream will come directly from the cloud for improved sound quality and reliability (instead of the device, which Apple's AirPlay does).

Clearly Google is going after Apple's AirPlay, which has been available for some time now; however, Google's solution works with nearly all devices on the market instead of just iOS and Mac. What do you think of Google Cast for Audio?

Apple copied? When was there a lawsuit that had them pay damages the last time? If anyone's the copycat, it's Samsung. They caught up to Apple in everything and is still going on since iphone 2007. When iphone was revealed so was the first Galaxy that resembles it, when Apple started putting a front face camera on the phones, so did Samsung, when Apple made the fingerprint scanner for the 5s, the s5 clearly mirrored the phone to be an exact copy but opposite of better version of it thus copying that to, then soon they knockoff loop pay will work just like Apple pay but made from you know who. Apple didn't copy Samsung one bit, there's not even a lawsuit on the larger iphone Samsung claimed was copied.

Stream music to from the Cloud? So if the music is not in the cloud but simply in the Device it doesn't work? Apple allows Music from Device and the Music from the cloud simply shows up. A little bit behind by a bunch ain't it... This is as painful to use if you don't have all your music in the cloud versus on a external SD card you keep you music in...Another failed attempt..

Google catches up and does it better. Apple has done a fine job of catching up. Like for example NFC and bigger screen on the iPhone.

Apple didn't really catch up, they did more than that, they revealed a better way of doing what others done in other words is new in terms of the way it works. Now Samsung is catching up by making yet another Apple knockoff, loop pay even though Google made mobile payments (that are less than apple's version) for them.

What is there to compete other than just displaying anything on the screen, besides Apple TV had this since the 2nd generation and years to now, Google finally catches up. Congrats.
