Volkswagen has confirmed that it will support CarPlay and Android Auto in its 2016 vehicles shipping later this year. CarPlay will run alongside Volkswagen's new in-car infotainment system known as MIB II.

Later this year, VW will introduce the second generation "modular infotainment platform" (MIB II) in the United States. Along with the new infotainment system, MirrorLink will also be made available for the first time, integrating the apps and operating layout of numerous smartphones (including Samsung, HTC, LG and Sony) into cars. When MirrorLink is introduced, two other interfaces will also be launched under the App-Connect label: CarPlay™ (Apple) and Android Auto (Google). Simultaneously, VW will also launch CarPlay and Android Auto in the European market.

When Apple first launched CarPlay, Volkswagen was a major manufacturer missing; however, they now join Audi, Chevrolet, BMW, Ford, Nissan, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Jeep, Volvo and more. Volkswagen notes that new cars in both Europe and North America will get support sometime in late 2015.

Nice to see both iOS and android supported because what if you brought a new phone which was the other OS then it wouldn't work with your car which would be very annoying
