Apple has overtaken Nikon to become the second most popular 'camera company' on Flickr, notes PetaPixel.

In 2013, Apple trailed Canon and Nikon with 7.7% of photos posted to Flickr being taken by an Apple device. Canon devices were used for 13% of photos and Nikon devices were used for 8.8% of photos.

In 2014, Apple overtook Nikon with 9.6% of Flickr photos being taken by an Apple device. Nikon landed in third place with 9.3% and Canon held onto its lead with 13.4%.

Notably, Apple devices make up the top three most popular cameras. The 2014 top individual cameras owned on Flickr are: iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, Canon EOS 7D, and the Nikon D7000.

The iPhone5, 5s and 6' cameras are amazing for basic, well-lit shots which lack moving objects. I owned a 5, and now a 6. I produce a trail-guide book as well as a map brochure and have used iPhone shots in both print publications. iPhone cameras have a near-RAW-equivilant capability that the vast majority of digital cameras lack: saving images as .tiff formatted files. This lossless image file format should be mandatory in quality cameras, as most laymen are not familiar or technically savvy enough to post-process RAW formatted files. I can only imagine that the reason for embracing lossy .jpg as the standard / default file format is due to lack of serious processing power in most classic cameras. But that is likely to change soon, with dual, quad and octo-core microprocessors becoming incredibly common. I love my '6' and look forward to the iPhone7 and beyond. Add some improved glass, larger sensors and more advanced pixel extrapolation, and get the public over the 'thinner is better' headspace, and I see camera-phones destroying not only point and shoot sales, but mauling DSLR sales as well. I expect cellphones will continue overtaking traditional cameras, just because that is what people carry around, and cellphone cameras are getting better and better each year. Not that I am saying cellphones will ever replace or take better photos then a nice DSLR. But they are getting good enough for the people who just want a decent looking photo. But I did find it interesting that all of the brands had an increase especially Samsung. Apple may have over taken Nikon but, Samsung had a higher percentage increase overall, and over took Sony. But Samsung has Cameras and phones, so they have the advantage of having an extra market share.

Not really speaking the truth above for real I live licking cleansed candy and eating fresh meals with 100% no waste. Living life to the coolest compared to the myth above. It's all dreams there.

Apple doesn't make cameras, Sony makes the cameras for all their idevises, and Nikon and Cannon don't have a devise you can upload to the internet immediately. This is a stupid article, I'm going to stop wasting my time and go end world hunger!

You do realize I just covered that Apple needs to. Canon is ok judging what people did with popular YouTube videos but Nikon is kind of junk. Sony has some con against canon. You can claim s article stupid though, it's just saying how many people use what, it's not criticizing anything the wrong way in which you are.

Apple needs to make stand alone cameras. I recently looked for camcorders for future uses but I can't seem to find the perfect one when it comes to people saying how good they are compared to how long they last. It's making my head spin.
