Next Generation iPhone to Feature Touch ID Module With Reduced Reading Errors?

Posted February 10, 2015 at 5:03pm by iClarified
Apple's next generation iPhone will feature an improved Touch ID module with reduced reading errors, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

"We think the new iPhone, expected to launch in 3Q15, will be equipped with an upgraded Touch ID module, with which Apple (US) intends to offer a better and safer Apple Pay user experience with reduced reading errors. We therefore raise our 2015F shipments of Touch ID module by 12.4% to 262mn sets, boosted by Apple Pay and new iPhone models."

Kuo expects suppliers to increase production of the new Touch ID module with shipments rising by 77% to over 260 million units in Q2. The analyst also noted that that the module will "require more advanced precision for the module’s laser welding process." Sunnic and ASE Kuo are said to be the two main suppliers alongside TSMC.

As expected, Kuo predicts Apple will release its next generation smartphone in the third quarter of this year. Kuo also downplayed rumors that Touch ID would be embedded into its display, citing that the need for sapphire crystal displays and complex algorithms. It will likely be a while before such technology is ready for market, said the analyst.

My touch ID works flawlessly, an upgrade will make no sense unless it's retina binary scanning.

Whilst it may be reliable for the User, that doesn't mean it shouldn't be upgraded to prevent hacking. It has been shown to be possible, so it must be improved continually.

More like major upgrades like Apple did with Apple pay, therby always expanding touch id. Maybe this means it can tell what it's scanning, like skin, paper, metal, etc.! But camera, same megapixels, major change in the way it works compared to the 5s. The 6s is said to be the BIGGEST jump ever!
