Mysterious Apple Van With Rooftop Cameras Spotted in Palo Alto [Video]

Posted February 16, 2015 at 6:43pm by iClarified
An unmarked mini-van with rooftop cameras that is reportedly leased to Apple, has been spotted on video in Palo Alto. The video of the van was recorded as it drove past Juana Briones Park on Clemo Avenue -- a residential street located just 10 miles away from Apple's headquarters in Cupertino.

A similar van was spotted earlier this month in Palo Alto and some believed that Apple was simply working on ways to improve its Maps application. Apple could be working on a feature similar to Google's Street View; however, with recent reports indicating that Apple is working on an electric self-driving vehicle, this van could be related to those efforts.

Both Google and Tesla are heavily invested in self-driving vehicles, so it is interesting to see Apple explore this project. Apple is clearly in very early research and development stages, but we can't wait to see what the company has planned.

That's dangerous speed in the area with kids playing around. I hope they take their testing somewhere safer!

At this point, it could be either the automobile R&D or an improved iteration of a street view for maps...

I sure hope Apple will do way better job than street view. Some areas viewed on google's had some text in the way, looked blurry in anywhere I look, but worst was the loading times it took. My bet is the car is used to improve Apple maps. To me, it's already perfect but I'm guessing this is for navigation.
