Apple Watch Edition Estimated to Contain 29.16g of Gold Worth About $850

The upcoming gold Apple Watch is estimated to contain about 29.16 grams of gold, which on its own would be worth about $850 USD at today's prices.

Greg Koenig, co-founder of Luma Labs, calculated the gold content based on his models.

For fun, I took my Apple Watch models and used SW and some basic assumptions to figure the gold content. 29.16g

At today's prices of $39.08 USD / gram at 75% purity (18 karat), that works out to $853.82 USD just for the gold.

Koenig suggests, as others have, that the gold Apple Watch models could cost over $5000.

If anyone thinks Apple is charging less than $5k for the Edition, they are smoking crack. Based on the gold content alone, $5k easy

However, if the gold content is worth less than $1000, it seems as though it's possible the Apple Watch Edition models could be priced lower than that.

Apple is shipping the Apple Watch in April. The company has said that the watch will start at $349. We'll let you know if any more price information becomes available.

Yeah right. Like guessing how many are buying the gold is going to increase it, but when was the last time a mobile Apple product costed over $1,000? Apple doesn't overprice for nothing if the parts are not that costly for such long lasting gadgets.

Why are Apple gadgets disposable? It's what people think they need, not what they really need! I am still happy with my iPhone 4, and it does everything I want albeit a bit slower than newer models. I also use a 2008 iMac and it does what I want it to do. So disposable? no not really

1. The gold value should include the weight of gold in the wristband buckle. I think it has been omitted in the above calculations. 2. I think the internal watch OS module is an upgradeable swap-out (seems clear from the design specs), so when versions 2, 3,... arrive, you'll be able to get Apple to swap it to the latest module for a cost.

A watch in your pocket is what iphone is, but for something that you wear can track your health. Don't get me started on cost for buying something that does one think only.

Dude...that is the most intelligent post I have read on here in a VERY long time. Investing in a gold first gen ANYTHING is dumb. Actually....Investing in ANYTHING where the hardware can become outdated and not be sufficient for software updates further down the road is just plain stupid.

Really? Past apple products costed way less than that. Something this tiny than others makes it right to cost more?

I don't think it's going to be pure gold, maybe gold colored paint
