A source tells AppleInsider that both Jony Ive, Apple's famed designer, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk were among the attendees at Madonna's A-list Oscar afterparty on Sunday — an extremely exclusive event where all press and photography are strictly prohibited. Ive and Musk were observed speaking "really close" and "basically inseparable" from each other for a period that seemed to stretch on for roughly 30 minutes, this person said.
Ive was walking about the party with a few people when Musk approached him and their conversation began. They reportedly exited the party together at around 5 a.m.
Unfortunately, there is no photos of the encounter due to the no press, no photographers policy at the gathering. Both Ive and Musk were spotted earlier at the popular Vanity Fair Oscar party, as well.
The discussion between the two is particularly interesting following rumors that Apple may be looking to challenge Tesla with the development of its own electric car. Reports also suggest the two companies are in an employee poaching war.
Back about a year ago, Apple was rumored to be in talks with Tesla about an acquisition. Musk confirmed the talks but wouldn't say what they were about.
