Sales of the New 12-Inch MacBook Forecasted at Just 450K for 1H15

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that sales of Apple's new 12-inch MacBook will reach just 450,000 during the first half of 2015.

The analyst believes that the "higher price and concerns about the model having only one USB-C I/O, a potential inconvenience, along with supply chain constraints" will keep the number low in the first half of the year.

However, Kuo is positive on the new laptop medium/long term saying that it will "prompt the market to refocus on the thin and light form factor design trend".

Here's the details...

We forecast shipments of the all-new design 12-inch MacBook of 450k units in 1H15; despite limited near-term contribution to the supply chain, the product boasts positive medium/ long-term trends. Given the higher price and concerns about the model having only one USB-C I/O, a potential inconvenience, along with supply chain constraints, we forecast shipments of the all-new design 12-inch MacBook will reach only 450k units in 1H15. Despite limited near-term contribution to the supply chain, we believe the product will prompt the market to refocus on the thin and light form factor design trend, including metal casing, hinge, fanless thermal system, USB Type-C and thinner keyboard/ panel. Stocks for Action The 12-inch MacBook and Apple Watch have garnered mixed reviews. We see both products as having outstanding designs. Considering pricing and supply chain constraints in the foreseeable future, we believe shipments momentum is capped near term. Medium/ long term, we are positive on the industry trends represented by both products.

They could of put another USB port on the other side

you could install one yourself and attach it to the logic board then cut a hole to the side to insert a port or buy a USB port with a cord to connect to the one on the left then attach the port to the right of the macbook.

Why didn't they just put a separate power port in the first place? What's keeping me from buying this is the single port for all.. Wew!

here's a suggestion I hope for them to build- 2 ports, the MagSafe or MagSafe 2 with a usb-c port next to it as one whole combined hub to plus into the usb-c port. Problem solved. Wish I had a picture to visualize that but it will help.

Playing catch up with what? Microsoft is constantly repeating the order Apple did years ago, is the other way around where you're not making sense.

And by repeating order, releasing products many other companies have done and they are far by the last to release any. Iphone- 2007. Windows phone- 2012. Ipad- 2010. Surface- 2012. The list goes on the more Apple reveals new products and it's no surprise.
