Apple's newly announced 12-inch MacBook is already being mocked by competitors including Lenovo, Dell, and ASUS.

Lenovo tweeted, "WE SEE YOUR thin laptop (#SoLastYear) & raise you 3 modes, 2 USB ports & a higher-resolution touch display". Attached to the tweet was a side-by-side comparison of the new MacBook and its Yoga 3 Pro. The Yoga 3 Pro is 0.3mm thinner than the MacBook Air; however, the picture makes it seem as though its significantly thinner.

Dell was next tweeting, "Our #DellXPS 13’s virtually borderless infinity display has 5.7M pixels - that's 2M more than a 12” retina display."

ASUS also got in on the action tweeting, "ZenBook UX305 is even slimmer than the new Macbook. It's also about half the price. #Incredible". Of course, the company failed to mention that its base model doesn't come with a Quad-HD display.

It's so sad that in all of these fcking articles, it takes 3 comments down, and then it's a war between people. Rude and nonsense comments about nothing... it's always the same story... No wonder people leave this site for 9to5mac, macrumors etc.

You're not the brightest. Apple hasn't lost anything. Windows 8 took two years to reach a 21% user adoption rate. It took OS X Yosemite just four days to reach the same milestone. If I remember correctly, the last 2-3 Mac OS has been free. Windows doesn't have better 'price' or 'performance'.

So Apple locks OSX to their computers, but then allows Windows to run on their hardware too? If you truly have the best OS, why won't you lock Windows out of your hardware?

I have an Apple PowerBook G4 I bought in 2004 that I and all 3 of my kids have used and it still works flawlessly. What windows computer can even come close to saying that? I bet any windows user must've gone through at least 4 computers in the past ten years. Anyone that still don't own an Apple computer have never used one for a week.

Neither one of this notebooks run on the most advanced os: OS X, and don't have the quality that Apple has with all of its line-up. So you can mock all you want but people who truly appreciate quality and stability will always go with Apple.

People feel the need to compare their products to apple because apple sets the standard for build quality and design, every company in the phone, tablet and PC industry copy and follow suit behind apples products because they know that apple knows what they're doing and people don't need a reason to buy Apple products, they just buy them without a second thought. Apple products just work, they do their job in the areas they're meant to be used in and do it well, other companies cram tons of unneeded shit in their products and use that as their selling point(s). I myself prefer Apple products because they simply work for me and do everything I need them to do. I'm sure the yoga 3 pro is pretty decent, but I wouldn't buy one just because of the name (I would feel gay owning something called yoga lol), but if I were looking to buy a new MacBook I'd probably go with the gold one just because of the 512gb SSD and gold option lol

For build quality, Panasonic makes the best. They don't copy Apple and their kit lasts. Business models are spill proof, drop proof, extremely light and durable. They're also made in Japan.

if you have any amount of a brain you know apple aren't the best at tech advances but what they do is make something that looks elegant/beautiful rather than cheap and plasticy

The Yoga 3 feels much heavier and is thicker on the near edge.

I remember when CEO of Dell mocked/gave advice to Apple to disband/sell out. Most don't understand Apple's quest for beautiful quality products you can be proud to produce/use and the media thrives on putdowns, price comparisons, and their misguided version of "value". Apple is in a league of their own.

I used to buy Dell but I got tired of replacing them each year because of their poor construction. I bought a MacBook and it has lasted four years so far. Even though it cost more upfront, I came out ahead in the long run. Then again, not having to use a Windows OS makes it worth every penny alone...

Well Dell, Asus, Lenovo, its officially time to panic, because its not only about thinner and all the rest, your computer don't have the apple badge, meaning apple software, and if you dont believe me watch the new macbook 12 inch outsell all of you together...but I think you already know that.

None of those notches matter if you're running Windows 8. Keep your touch screen and whatever else you have that would really only matter if it's running OS X. Microsoft on anything instantly makes it garbage.

im sorry but the craftsmanship of Apple products is head and shoulders above the competition. And the advantage of OSX over windows is clear, it just works every time and it's secure. Every time I go on my windows machines I always feel like I'm in the Wild West with all the BS malware. Not to mention the integration of OSX and iOS. THE ONLY advantage that windows has is that it's still cheaper to build a windows based gaming rig than an Apple machine. I will always game on a massive windows rig.

competition is good... to be honest, this macbook is for cafe net users. i'm quite happy with my macbook air with all it's ports. i'm going to keep using it still until i need to upgrade to a macbook pro. this macbook i can see is for people who use an iPad most of the time and needs a keyboard. i think if you end up buying one you will start to learn how to manage files in the cloud rather than physically. then the design isn't so bad.

All of you guys forget that Tim also makes jokes about others on stage, and to tell the truth, one USB connector is a disappointment! Also having a Mac Pro myself I'll never give up my Windows Computers because the world and the Net is

OSx is such a waste, still the same for the past 10 years, Windows 8.1 is way better, well it's only for smart people.

Was reading on news earlier Intel's $1BN revenue hit because Windows XP users not switching to W8 and it's hurting Dell, HP and Lenovo too, Windows 8 is rubbish.

OSX is not a waste. Windows has been trying to revolutionize their OS, it's like reinventing the wheel. If it works, why fix it? OSX structured it's UI and performance pretty well. Adoption rate from previous OS to Yosemite is about ~44%. Windows 8, took two years to reach an adoption rate of 22%. Tell me, who's really the 'smart people'?
