Apple Says Apple Watch Pre-Orders Could Ship Earlier Than Online Estimates

Following up on an email from a concerned customer, the executive relations team at Apple revealed that shipments of its new Apple Watch could arrive earlier than online estimates.

Andrew Turko, a MacRumors reader, recently sent an email to Tim Cook. Turko was concerned about Apple marketing a launch day for the Apple Watch then telling customers that the only way to buy it was via online pre-order.

Here's an excerpt from his email:

---
I think it'd be silly not to believe that there will be queues lined up around the globe on launch day if the "online exclusive" information regarding the (false) advertisement of a launch day isn't spread soon and fast. The way I see it is, April 10th should have been marketed as the launch, it should have been carefully explained that it will be an online exclusive launch until supply can meet demand. If that were said, then what I'm hearing would make complete sense. But why go on to announce a launch day of what is essentially just a delivery day for pre orders.
---

Turko received a lengthy call back from an executive relations team member at Apple. Apparently Cook read the email and it was brought to the attention of the executive team involved in the launch.

The portion of his email that caught their eye the most was the first sentence highlighted above. Turko says that the Apple employee "mentioned that due to these points made, discussion surrounding in-store stock on launch day, as well as the marketing advertising the 04.24.15 date are being considered with 'great concern'." He was also told that plans could change again and that nothing is final until the 24th.

Furthermore, he was told that June pre-orders will most likely ship sooner than June, but there are no promises.

Lastly, he mentioned that Apple still cares deeply about the launch experience, saying that lines aren't exactly a thing of the past like it's been implied. They just hope to improve "how" we wait in line (eg. new reservation system), eliminating a large number of the negatives associated with it. We know that many still like that experience.

Same here, kept refreshing the Apple Store Webpage on my laptop as well as my Apple Store App was finally able to get in on the app around 12:08am here on the west coast. Ordered the space grey stainless steel and it gave 4-6 weeks shipping estimate with the dates of May 13-27. I had to be one of the first to order since I refreshed every few seconds. I knew exactly what I wanted and picked it and ordered using apple pay, didn't even have to enter any credit card information so I don't know why I won't have one on release date.

Apple has always done this. I've generally gotten my iPhones and other products sooner than my pre-order estimates suggested. They're just extra cautious this time (I hope!!!).

I totally agree with the writer. Not everyone chooses to use credit cards for purchases . Also how does apple expect people in some third world countries who do not have credit cards to buy their products . This is a bad strategy Apple adopted this time .

High chance for creditcard holders to buy extra paid apps.

Even though i placed my order 10 minutes (or less) after the store was open i still got 4-6 weeks which is completely unacceptable. I understand that there is a high demand, but still they delayed the store opening, at least here on the east coast the store didnt open until 3:08-10 am, and i still have to wait 4-6 weeks. I ordered 42mm sport watch with white band.
