AU Optronics to Supply Apple With Display Panels for Future iPhones?

AU Optronics will reportedly sign an agreement to supply Apple will display panels for future generation iPhones, reports TechNews via DigiTimes.

The report quoted supply chain sources resources stating that Apple is looking for additional panel suppliers both for current and upcoming iPhones in order to secure shipments, as other makers' yields have been fluctuating. AUO is expected to supply 4-inch panels and is currently prepping 4.7- and 5.5-inch LTPS In-Cell displays at its L3A and 3B fabs, the report added.

AU Optronics is not expected to begin supply displays to Apple until 2016, presumably for the iPhone 7.


DigiTimes reiterates that it expects Apple to unveil three iPhones in the second half of this year, a 4-inch, 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch model. All models are believed to be equipped with LTPS panels.
