Apple Launches Quality Program to Address Anti-Reflective Coating Issue on MacBooks

Apple Launches Quality Program to Address Anti-Reflective Coating Issue on MacBooks

Posted October 17, 2015 at 4:18pm by iClarified
Apple has launched a new internal Quality Program to address issues with the anti-reflective coating on MacBook and MacBook Pro models with Retina displays, reports MacRumors.

Back in March, a growing number of MacBook owners began reporting that the anti-reflective coating on their display was coming off due to various factors including the pressure of the keys and trackpad on the display when the notebook is closed, third-party cleaning solutions, microfiber cloths, and more.

Almost 6,000 affected customers joined an online database called Staingate to share pictures of their displays and thousands signed a Change.org petition.

The outcry has led Apple to issue an internal notice about a new Quality Program. The company will replace affected Retina displays at no cost for MacBook or MacBook Pro models within three years from the date of original purchase, or one year from October 16, 2015, whichever is longer. Those who already paid for a repair may be eligible to get their money back.

Affected customers should make a Genius Bar appointment or visit an authorized service proivder to check if they quality for a free repair. Apple is not planning to publicly post about the Quality Program but it may contact some customers directly.

Let us know if your device has suffered from this issue in the comments. Did you already pay to have it fixed?

You most likely already paid 4x the cost it cost to make. So in reality it cost them nothing.

Hey Clown, you're absolutely right. Then again if your so called standard Windows laptop breaks at 499 - 800 a piece and you kept buying one every two years you end up spend 1.5 -2.5 x more than an apple product.

I hope they can allow people to send their computer to them and have them repair it in the US. then they could send them back to their owners. Sounds like an untrustworthy idea, but that's the only way out I can think.

Apple no-doubt needed some time to investigate the whole "stain gate" problem, but …… THANKS FOR STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE APPLE … . It's why I remain a loyal Apple user and owner (both at home and at work) … for over 25 years!!!

Actually looked it up, HP hard drive failures, Azer were overheating and multiple others mostly early failures. No replacements just buy another or it repair yourself.

I know this may sound weird, but I actually enjoy a big fat recall from Apple with free replacement. It's an adventure. You get to feel all special when you find out you're eligible and you march down to the apple store and proudly order the genius bar to fix it for you free of charge. I find it exciting to then get the device back knowing that it's all shiny and new, given a new burst of life. It's pretty weird I know, but i still think it's fun....

I agree. They provided us the goods that are of an inferior quality why do we have to fight so hard for our rights for a free repair or replacement?

Id rather have a messed up screen on a Mac than a MS Surface. The Surface is horrible, and Windows 10 acts just like 8 on it. Windows 10 isn't as good as many are saying in reviews - it's buggy and doesn't work right - it just sucks.

Dude, surface pro sucks, most games and programs barely works on the hardware it's built on. I returned mine after 2 days trying to make it sensible enough to use with win10.
