Verizon Asks FCC For Waiver to Launch Wi-Fi Calling

Posted October 26, 2015 at 6:38pm by iClarified
Verizon has requested a waiver from the FCC which would allow it to launch Wi-Fi Calling in the United States.

Verizon requests a waiver of any applicable TTY-related requirements for its IP-enabled wireless services identical to and subject to the same conditions as the waiver recently granted to AT&T. In the AT&T Waiver Order, the Commission granted AT&T a waiver, but also specifically invited “requests from similarly situated providers seeking a similar waiver of the TTY requirements.” Thus, pursuant to Section 1.3 of the Commission’s rules, 47 C.F.R. § 1.3, Verizon requests prompt approval of the same conditional waiver of sections 6.5, 7.5, 14.20, 20.18(c), and 64.603 of the Commission’s rules “and any other Commission rules that require support of TTY technology as an accessible solution for VoIP networks,” subject to the same customer notification, progress reporting, and duration conditions.

AT&T was recently granted a waiver of TTY-related requirements for its Wi-Fi Calling feature. You can learn how to enable Wi-Fi Calling by watching this video.

Well At&t and Verizon were trying to follow the rules and laws about wi-if calling which all the other carriers haven't been doing, and At&t finally said ef it, we can't do what the law is requiring us to do over wifi, so let's do the next best thing and ask the fcc for permission to not do these specific things over wifi so that we can offer wifi calling legally, and then once Verizon saw that At&t did it, they asked for permission too.

Honestly about time like what's the hold up on all your crap Verizon, last for android updates, last for wifi calling, last for everything !!! Biggest reason I'm with Apple is because they know how to tell carriers that they're in control of their devices and choose when to update them.
