Walgreens is the First Retailer to Integrate Its Loyalty Program With Apple Pay

Walgreens has announced that Balance Rewards members can now use their account through Apple Pay without the need to separately scan a Balance Rewards card or barcode.

“We’re excited to be the first to provide our customers with increased ease of access to their Balance Rewards account and information when using Apple Pay,” said Sona Chawla, president of digital and chief marketing officer for Walgreens. “This offering supports our commitment to removing friction and enabling a simple and convenient customer experience.”

Users can simply add the Balance Rewards digital card to the Wallet app in iOS 9 and use it at checkout with Apple Pay.

Members simply hold their iPhone near the contactless reader with a finger on Touch ID and the appropriate rewards information will be sent. On Apple Watch, they just double-click the side button, select their Balance Rewards card, and hold the face of Apple Watch up to the reader.

Apple Pay has continued its slow expansion with Kohl's recently becoming the first store card to work with Apple Pay and American Express forming a partnership with Apple to bring the payment service to Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Spain.

Yeah, but Walgreens will still ask you 50 f***ing questions before they had you your receipt.. I swear they have the worst implementation of Apple Pay of any retailer I've seen. It should be as easy as scanning and you're out, but instead they still make you put in a f***ing PIN #.. and then ask if you want cash back... etc... Even if you tell them NO its credit.. theres still a bunch of steps they make you go through.. What they don't realize is that swiping a card wasn't the inconvenient part of transactions, its all the bullshit that goes along with it. Sure they cut out the swipe, added an NFC scan, but you still have all the same shit.. THAT is what they should be fixing! Anyone else have this experience at Walgreens?
