Apple Shuts Down Topsy Following 2013 Acquisition

Apple has shut down Topsy following its acquisition of the company in 2013.

Topsy was a company that specialized in data from Twitter. It offered tools to analyze tweets and other information to help track consumer sentiment. Topsy could decipher how often a specific term was tweeted, find an influential person on a specific subject, and measure the exposure of an event or campaign.

The announcement of Topsy's shutdown came via the company's Twitter account:


"We've searched our last tweet."

Vipul Ved Prakash, the former CTO and Co-Founder of Topsy, is now a Director of Engineering at Apple. He says on LinkedIn that "along with the incredibly talented Topsy team, I am leading the charge on the new search engines behind Spotlight & Safari".
